National Eligibility Test

National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts UGC-NET in 81 different subjects (as of June 2021) on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility for Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship or both, for Indian Universities and Colleges. The Test consists of two papers. Both the papers consist of objective type, multiple choice questions. Paper I is intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It is primarily designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. NTA also conducts Joint CSIR-UGC NET in 5 different subjects, namely (1) Chemical Sciences, (2) Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, (3) Life Sciences, (4) Mathematical Sciences, and (5) Physical Sciences. The test is conducted to determine the eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or Lectureship/Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges.
